Orangutans are highly intelligent primates native to Indonesia and Malaysia, and are known for their distinctive red hair and long, powerful arms. They are the largest tree-dwelling animals in the world, and spend most of their lives high up in the rainforest canopy. Sadly, these majestic creatures are critically endangered due to habitat loss from deforestation and illegal hunting. Orangutans are gentle and peaceful animals, and have a complex social system where mothers care for their young for up to eight years.
