The Hippopotamus, or ‘river horse’, is a large, semi-aquatic mammal native to sub-Saharan Africa. Known for their enormous size, stocky build, and distinctive barrel-shaped body, hippos spend most of their time in the water to keep their massive bodies cool. They are herbivores, with a diet that consists of mostly grass and other vegetation. Despite their large size, hippos are surprisingly fast and agile in the water, making them one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. Unfortunately, hippos are also an endangered species, threatened by habitat loss and hunting.
